What is a battery group size?

The Battery Council International (BCI) group size is a standard that defines a battery's physical dimensions, terminal type, and terminal position - so you know it will physically fit your tray and connect correctly. There are only about 30 common passenger-vehicle group sizes. Matching the group size (and meeting the CCA rating) is what makes a replacement "fit."

Frequently asked

What size battery does my car take?

Enter your year, make, and model in the finder above to get the exact BCI group size and CCA rating. Most passenger vehicles use one of about 30 common group sizes.

How many cold cranking amps (CCA) do I need?

Match or exceed your vehicle's factory CCA. As a rough guide, a 4-cylinder needs about 500-600 CCA, a V6 around 600-700, and a V8 or truck 700-900. Cold climates need more.

Can I use a battery with a higher group size or more CCA?

More CCA is fine and helps in cold weather, as long as the group size physically fits your battery tray and the terminals line up. A different group size may not fit correctly.
