Britax B-Safe Gen2 expiration date

Britax says the B-Safe Gen2 expires 6 years after its date of manufacture. A seat made in May 2024 can be used until May 2030.

"To prevent injury due to deterioration or hidden damage, DO NOT use this infant car seat and base if it is older than six (6) years or has been in a moderate or severe crash."

From Britax's B-Safe Gen2 manual, checked 2026-11-07.

When does my B-Safe Gen2 expire?

Enter the date of manufacture from the label on your seat. It is not the date you bought it.

Pick the month and the year.

Key takeaways

  • Britax B-Safe Gen2: 6 years from the date of manufacture.
  • Type: infant car seat, no longer sold new.
  • Count from the date on the label, not the purchase date.
  • If the label prints an expiration date, that date wins.

Where to find the date on the B-Safe Gen2

Look for a white sticker on the plastic shell, usually on the back, the side or underneath. It lists the model number and the date of manufacture, and newer seats often print the expiration date on the same label or stamp it into the plastic.

When to replace a seat before it expires

  • After a moderate or severe crash. NHTSA lists the conditions under which a seat can stay in use after a minor one: car seat use after a crash.
  • When the label with the date of manufacture is missing and the maker cannot tell you the date from the serial number.
  • When the seat has a recall that has not been fixed. Register the seat with its maker so recall notices reach you.
  • When your child is past the seat's height or weight limit, whatever the date.

Before you throw an expired seat out, cut the harness straps and write EXPIRED on the shell so nobody picks it up and uses it.
